27.07.2016 - The Aspri Ammos (White Sand) refugee camp near the city of Kavala, eastern Greece, hosts refugees from Syria, Iraq and Palestine since April 2016. Greece currently hosts over 55,000 refugees and migrants in makeshift camps throughout the country, following the closure of the Balkan refugee corridor in March. The camp is situated on the site of a former mine and many of its Syrian residents have expressed the desire for a return journey to Syria via Turkey because of the inhumane conditions.
